By the end of June on the North Fork of Long Island, the strawberry crops are reaching their peak. These little red berries are so full of flavor they seem ready to burst with ruby-red juice.
On Father’s Day weekend, at the peak of the strawberry harvest, the Mattituck Lions Club hosts a very special celebration. The Mattituck Strawberry Festival  2013 is the 59th annual festival in village that has just seen the Mattituck firemen’s barbeque.  The festival offers a delicious, healthy and wholesome way to experience the North Fork of Long Island and raise money for local non-profits. Join in the fun, June 13-16, 2013, also the weekend of Wilfred’s birthday.
Eat strawberry shortcake, nibble strawberries dipped in chocolate, try strawberries any way you like them! Enjoy live music and find out what over 100 arts and crafts vendors have in store for you.
Get in on the small-town fun as the new Strawberry Queen is crowned and take a ride on the Ferris wheel in the Midway. Taste foods from around the world, along with as-local-as-you-can-get strawberries. The fun keeps going after the sun sets, so bring lawn chairs and enjoy the fireworks display Friday evening.

In our last post, we discussed some of the lovely beaches on the North Fork of Long Island. The sunny days are rapidly returning to us – which means the beach is the place to be!
When you visit New York, come up Long Island and visit us for some R&R at the Arbor View House Inn! We are conveniently located next to many nice beaches. Each has something different to offer, depending on the experience you want. Now, without further adieu, here is the rest of the list…

North Fork Beaches

New Suffolk Beach – One of the more popular beaches on the Peconic Bay, New Suffolk is also monitored by lifeguards (one of the few with this service).

New Suffolk Beach
New Suffolk Beach

Like many North Fork beaches, it’s popular with boaters and fishermen.
Breakwater Beach and Park – A large beach in Mattituck, Breakwater is perhaps known best for its beach volleyball and protected waterfowl nests (piping plovers).
Southold Town Beach – This beach is also popular in the winter because the parking lot is very close to the water and you can just sit and watch the waves. If you do choose to visit longer, this is a quiet beach with distant bluffs and it won’t disappoint.
Goldsmith Inlet Park – The main reason to visit this beach: A classic Long Island sunset. Rock jetties and the scenic wetlands around Goldsmith Pond also make a great backdrop for birdwatchers and photographers. But if you want to watch the sunset on Long Island, come here.

Lodging in Long Beach

When you visit New York’s Long Island, we invite you to come down to the North Fork and stay with us at Arbor View House Bed and Breakfast.  Not only do we provide luxury accommodations and a delicious breakfast each morning, we also have on-site spa services!

In case you were wondering, our North Fork bed and breakfast in East Marion sustained little destruction and stayed open for business throughout Hurricane Sandy and her aftermath. We suffered some small damage: trees and branches down, some fencing down and leaves and debris all over the place.
When we see how devastated people are in Staten Island and in New Jersey we are thankful that we only had some minor damage and lost power for three days. We are so grateful.
If you, like many along the east coast, are still without power, please come and stay with us. We have are regaining our calm and peace here. Our fireplaces are stoked and glowing to warm you.

The Tall Ships 2012 are coming to Greenport on the North Fork of Long Island over Memorial Day Weekend.
This is an extraordinary occasion–a chance to see some of the most glorious ships in the world under sail. The ships will arrive on Friday, May 25th and depart on Tuesday, May 29. While they’re docked in the Village of Greenport, visitors are invited to step on board and speak with members of the crew.
It’s magnificent to simply see the ships. Being able to tour them is, as they say, icing on the cake.
We’re looking forward to Memorial Day Weekend at our North Fork Long Island Bed and Breakfast, which is about five minutes from the Village of Greenport. You can bike to Greenport from Arbor View House in about fifteen minutes; that’s a good option during busy times like Memorial Day Weekend with the Tall Ships in town.
There will be vendors in town and Front Street will be closed each day until 6 pm.
Come see the Pride of Baltimore II, a reproduction 1812-era topsail schooner and the Goodwill Ambassador of the State of Maryland.

To have a truly relaxing Long Island Bed and Breakfast experience, it helps to have a massage. That’s why we bring the massage to you at Arbor View House.
Is there anything more relaxing in life than a massage? A good massage can melt your muscles and dissolve stress. It can alleviate pain, increase flexibility, and heal sore muscles. Massage can increase energy and decrease depression. It can heal. It also just plain feels good.
Take advantage of the spa services we offer at our North Fork Long Island Bed and Breakfast, whether you suffer from aches and pains or simply want to feel good. Licensed massage therapists will come to Arbor View House and massage you in your own room. We work with several different massage therapists, and are therefore able to provide a wide variety of services.
If you simply want to relax, try a Swedish massage; it combines deep tissue work with Myofascial release (soft tissue), Reflexology, and Trigger Point Therapy. If you suffer from a sport’s related injury, have a Sport Massage and really work on your injured area. If you want to give your organs a treat, try Shiatsu; this ancient Japanese healing system works the energy points of the body and stimulates internal organs.
Hot Stone massage reveals how a combination of heat and Swedish massage can remove pain from sore muscles. Thai massage, said to be the physical manifestation of loving compassion, balances and energizes the body through slow movements and stretches. Reiki is a form of energy work, and can be deeply healing.
We also offer couples massages, maternity massages and aromatherapy at our North Fork Bed and Breakfast. Yoga classes (private or public) are also available, and if you just don’t feel right without your gym workout, ask us about our local gym.
The skin is the largest organ–it deserves to be pampered from time to time. Why not pamper it the next time you stay at Arbor View House?
Please see our Spa Services for a complete list of the services offered at Arbor View House.

Travelers today have many lodging options. You can stay in chain hotels and hostels, vacation rentals, and RVs. But to stay in a Bed and Breakfast is to stand up and declare that you want something different. Something special.
Just what makes a Bed and Breakfast so special? Read on:

You'll be pampered at Arbor View House.

Mi Casa es Su Casa

Innkeepers typically live in the B&B or in an adjacent dwelling. We are, in essence, inviting guests to sleep in our homes, as we would a friend. In doing so, we’re taking part in the ancient tradition of hospitality. It’s essential to us that our guests are comfortable and treated well. If you’re not, it reflects poorly on us. It’s hard to find another lodging option with those kind of stakes.

Size Matters

Bed and Breakfasts are, by definition, small. Like our New York Bed and Breakfast on the North Fork of Long Island, most B&Bs are owner run and operated. The small size allows us to be attentive to details, ensuring that our guests have a positive experience.

The Personal Touch

When friends or family visit, hosts plan and arrange activities. The Concierge Service at our Long Island Bed and Breakfast provides the same service for guests; we’ll talk to you about what you like to do, make suggestions, and, if you like, make arrangements for you. Our Concierge Service will book North Fork Wine Tours, make dinner reservations, and arrange spa services in house. Guest who prefer to make their own plans are, of course, welcome to do so.

The Gourmet Breakfast

There is always at least one cook in a Bed and Breakfast; one person passionate about cooking. At our New York Inn, it’s Veda. Breakfast is gourmet, with three full courses. Veda puts her heart and soul into each dish.

Romance is in the Air

To stay in a Bed and Breakfast is to embrace intimacy; that’s a quality so different from larger hotels. Guests feel pampered. Optional romance packages help create an intimate atmosphere.

B&B vs Boutique Hotel

New York City is known for its boutique hotels. A Bed and Breakfast is similar to a boutique hotel, in that both are focused on providing comfortable lodging and unparalleled attention to detail. Yet like chain hotels, boutique hotels may be quite large. As we said above, Size Matters.

Let 2012 be the year you stay in a Bed and Breakfast. Travel with someone you love: your boyfriend/girlfriend, your fiance, your spouse. Pamper yourself and pamper each other.

In Long Island Wine Country, May is “Run for the Roses” month.  During the month of May, one dollar from the sale of all rose wine (at participating Long Island wineries) will be donated to CancerCare.  CancerCare is a national non-profit organization offering free social services to individuals with cancer and their families.  Cancer is stressful on all families and friends and Long Island has dedicated May as a way to give back and donate to CancerCare.
This year there will be over 20 wineries participating in Run for the Roses and each have created their own special event and offering during the month of May.  Restaurants are also getting in on Run of the Roses and are including offerings such as free corkage and Claudio’s Restaurant & Clam Bar will be featuring special rose wines by the glass.  Vintage Tours will also be held every Saturday and Sunday during May and include visits to all wineries that are participating in the Run for the Roses Promotion and each passenger will receive a complimentary glass of rose paired with their lunch.
This is the perfect way to support the fight against cancer and enjoy sampling great rose wines at the same time.
During the month of may the Arbor View House will be offering a bottle of Rosé wine and cheese from Catapano’s farm when you book the Rosé Room for two nights.

Visit the Arbor House View Bed and Breakfast during the month of May we will be sending a portion of our receipts to support CancerCare.
