Long Island Spirits, located in Baiting Hollow, NY, is Long Island’s first craft distillery since the 1800’s. The company was founded in 2007, here on Long Island’s North Fork, right in the heart of the wine region. Long Island Spirits was 100th distiller in the U.S. to receive a distilled spirits plant license. Now, only ten years later, there are more than 1,250 in the country.
There was some initial grumbling when a distillery went up instead of another vineyard. Given that the new distillery was surrounded by 5,000 acres of potato farms and intended to produce vodka, it actually made good sense and the grumbling died down pretty quickly.
Long Island Spirits was founded by Master Distiller Rich Stabile – a Long Island native. The distillery is known for its flagship product, LiV Vodka – made from locally sourced Marcy potatoes – but that’s hardly all they make!
The North Fork distillery also produces Rough Rider Small Batch Bourbon and Rye Whiskey, Pine Barrens Single Malt Whisky, Deepwells Gin, a variety of fruit-flavored sorbettas, and more! The variety and quality of their spirits have served to increase their popularity well beyond the confines of the North Fork. Long Island Spirits brands are presently available in more than 30 states!
But the best place to taste them is right here, at the distillery on Long Island’s North Fork. The Long Island Spirits tasting room no only offers tastes of their delicious products but also scenic views of the functioning farm fields.
The Seasonal Tasting Menu includes barrel-aged whiskies, vodka-based spirits, plus whisky and vodka cocktails. Come out to the distillery, enjoy a few tastings in the rustic surroundings, then go home with a bottle or two. The entire collection of Long Island Spirits are available for on-site purchase!
