The historic nautical village of Greenport is famous for its fine art and craft galleries and enjoying the monthly Gallery Walk is a wonderful way to enjoy an evening.  Whether your passion is painting, graphics, photography, sculpture, ceramics, book arts, drawings, custom murals, art furniture, or unique collectibles you will find it on the North Fork or Long Island.  The Greenport galleries are as diverse as the village itself and work with a wide variety of established and emerging local artists.
The Gallery Walks are scheduled for the third Saturday of the month and remaining walks are scheduled for September 18, October 16, and November 20.  The doors are open between 6-9 P.M. for an evening of gallery hopping.  They offer a variety of gallery talks and refreshments and the variety of art is just exquisite.  Participating galleries include DeCordova Studio & Gallery, Knotted Dreams, Clarke’s Garden; Gallery M, Claw Flowers, the South Street Gallery & Framers, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company, Winter Harbor Gallery, Fiedler Gallery, Verbena, Greenport Art & Design, Terrence Joyce’s Dockside Gallery, John Jude Glass Gallery, Studio East Gallery, Noah’s Restaurant, and Sacred Sweets!
Even if you can’t make the dates for the remaining Gallery Walks, most of the galleries are open year around and you are always welcome to join us at the Arbor View Bed & Breakfast!

Spring is just a perfect time to enjoy scenic walks and trails on the North Fork of Long Island.  Within the Southold and Greenport areas of Long Island, the choices for nature trails for hiking and bird watching are in great abundance.

Long Island North Fork Hiking Trails List:

Cedar Beach Country Park in Southold is a 68 acre park with over 2,800 feet on Shelter Island Sound.  From the park, visitors can enjoy great vistas of Shelter Island Sound and the saltwater marshes of Cedar Beach Harbor.
Arshamomaque Point in Southold encompasses a 54-acres wooded preserve with several trails that wind through mature woodlands, ponds, and saltwater wetlands.
Arshamomaque Preserve in Greenport is a 120 acre preserved owned by the Town of Southold.  They have 1.3 miles of nature trails that wander through mature woodlands, freshwater wetlands, and open fields.
Inlet Pond Park in Greenport enjoys a 55 acre preserve with 1.6 miles of trails leading to Inlet Pond and Long Island Sound.  The North Fork Audubon has a visitor’s center and also offers nature programs.
Dam Pond Maritime Reserve in East Marion is a 36 acre reserve also owned by the Town of Southold.  Here you can enjoy a small protected bay, grasslands, saltwater marshes and woodlands.  There is also a trail that wanders through the reserve which is 1.2 miles long. This trail is a favorite of bird watchers and I love jogging in this park.  The Audubon Society keeps track of the birds that are found here.   This reserve is about a quarter mile from the B&B. I regularly hike there myself.
It will take some time to try them all, but we will enjoy having you as our guest at the Arbor View House Bed and Breakfast as you explore the North Fork Wine Country of Long Island

Arbor View House North Fork Long Island Bed and Breakfast Blog

I am new to WordPress.  This is my first blog post.  I knew I had to write a blog; Google says that content is essential and new content is king.  Every website needs to have fresh content regularly and consistently.  I started writing thin May and completed it in September 2009.
Things I might blog about:

  • The Art of “Doing Nothing.”

This is writing about the technique of clearing the mind while doing something or nothing.  It is the philosophical and spiritual discussion about the ability to do nothing.
