Southold, NY 4th of July Parade 2012
At noon on Wednesday, July 4th, the Southold Village Merchants will have their 15th Annual 4th of July Parade. Arrive before the festivities to get a good spot and enjoy a good old fashioned 4th of July parade. Wave a flag as the marching bands, classic cars, floats and red, white & blue riders on horseback pass by to cheers and applause. The route will start at Boisseau Avenue and continue to Tucker Lane Route 25. For more information, call (631) 765-4100.
2012 Greenport Carnival and Fireworks
Only five minutes from the inn, Greenport’s annual Carnival will offer a wide range of fun events, rides and games from July 3-7. The Greenport Carnical is open every evening from 6-11 p.m. at Moore’s Lane. Get on the carousel and have that once-a-year elephant ear or your favorite forbidden carnival treat! It’s a worthy cause too; the event raises funds for Greenport’s 7th Relief Hose Co. & Phenix Hook & Ladder Co #1.
There will be spectacular fireworks displays not only on the 4th of July, but also on Saturday, July 7th at 10 p.m. Arrive a bit earlier to the rear of the Green Port High School grounds at 720 Front Street if you want to watch the fireworks up close. Whatever spot you choose, bring your picnic blanket and goodies to enjoy with the show. If the merriment of a 4th of July crowd isn’t your style, you can always watch the fireworks as you stroll the nearby beaches.
Before the evening events, you can arrive during the day to experience downtown Greenport, NY. The fine seafood restaurants will be open and quaint stores beckon with antiques and unique arts and crafts.
After all the excitement of the North Fork 4th of July, you’ll love returning to your comfortable bed at our Long Island, NY accommodations.
The fourth annual North Fork Foodie Tour will be happening on Long Island’s North Fork on Sunday, September 12 from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M. The North Fork Foodie Tour is sponsored by the North Fork Reform Synagogue and offers access to culinary experiences which are not usually available to the public. The tour is self guided, but tickets must be purchased in advance. There are more than a dozen venues to visit and no matter where you choose to start the tour, you will receive a map and detailed instructions for planning your day.
Highlights will include a visit to new bakery in Greenport called Scared Sweets where owner Miche Bacher will lecture on, and demonstrate, the art of confection. Also in Greenport, Pipes Cove Oysters visitors will be able to learn how shellfish are grown, harvested, and shucked. Meet the winemakers at Shinn Estate Vineyards in Matticuck, Long Island’s only organic winery. North Fork Egg Farm in Southold features free-range hens which grave on unfertilized pastureland. Guests will be able to gather their own eggs and meet various breeds of chickens. At Krupski’s Vegetable and Pumpkin Farm in Peconic, visitors will learn how this family farm has thrived by changing its focus from a limited number of wholesale crops to a diverse offering of retail crops.
If that isn’t enough, there will be programs at Satur Farms in Churchogue, Catapano Goat Dairy in Peconic, Sang Lee Farms in Peconic, Ty Lloyd Egg Farm in Northville, Lavender by the Bay in East Marion, Taste of the North Fork in Peconic and Koppert Cress micro-greens in Peconic. John Ross, cookbook author and “father of North Fork cuisine” and Tom Schaudel, chef-owner of A Mano in Mattituck, will also be on hand.

Don’t miss the last weekend of the 2010 Winterfest Jazz on the Vine. Enjoy a Long Island Romantic Getaway and throw in a little jazz for good flavor. Some of the best Steinway concerts will be happening the on Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21 and we do not want you to miss out! Here are some of the highlights:
EEAC Masters Quintet will be performing at Castello di Borghese Vineyards on Saturday, March 20 at 3 P.M. Teddy Charles is an American jazz pianist, drummer and vibraphone musician and has worked with some of the best including Miles Davis and Aretha Franklin. This is sure to get your feet tapping!
Trevor Davison Swing Jazz Quartet will be at Raphael, Saturday, March 20 at 4 P.M. This lively quartet has a variety of music from big bank swing, jazz, and classical to 50’s do-wop and mo-town. A regular on the North Fork of Long Island, it will be hard to sit in your seat.
Nilson Matta Brazilian Voyage Trio will be performing on Sunday, March 21 at 3 P.M. Matt is knows as a powerhouse bass-player and has been considered one of the best in the world. Combine this with Brazilian music and it is sure to be a winner.

Whether it is better to get lost and left behind as a Luddite and suffer the thought that you are growing old and losing touch with your youth or to go to the computer and write and share and join forces with the youthful masses. And, by opposing, do nothing. Therefore to turn old, to be disconnected, to be left back in the 20th century, to be dead is not my choice.”
I like life, so therefore I blog.
As you can see, I am attempting to paraphrase Shakespeare (and trying to be funny, too) to explain the difficulty that I have been experiencing these last few months since I recognized that I was going to write a blog. And as I am no Shakespeare, I will not bore you with any more prose like that and proceed with my Blog.
FOUR REASONS TO BLOG
Blogging is all the rage now for businesses. Business people now get to share their experiences with those interested and willing to read. As I understand it, there are three main reasons to blog.
- To Brag about your products, services, and events (Veda’s delicious date nut bread and excellent breakfasts)
- To share your personal stories and experiences (The joys of maintaining a 200-year-old house) that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places)
- To drive people to your website and grow your business ( I like this one)
- Search engines love it because the content is fresh and more accessible to update than a website
WHAT TO EXPECT
I have a lot that I want to share with you. Therefore I am excited to announce to our fans that we will be sharing things about the B&B, The North Fork, the wineries, and my thoughts with you, our fans, clients, and others. I am very excited, as in every new project, I must temper my enthusiasm with common sense and not overwhelm you.
OUR TENTH ANNIVERSARY
Arbor View House Bed & Breakfast is celebrating our 10th year in business. We started our B&B in Late August 1999. We really thought that we knew what we were doing. In that time, we have seen so many things change, new additions and upgrades to the B&B, 9/11, two wars, two new grandchildren, a black president, additional B&Bs in the area, and many new wineries, among other things. One thing that has remained constant is our love of what we do being Innkeepers. Veda and I love what we do and love our guests. We get tremendous pleasure from providing service and seeing the pleasure they derive from it. We would be unable to do it all without guests, supporters, friends, relatives, and suppliers. This has been a blast, and we are looking forward to having fun on the roller coaster. We started out by saying that we would get the best guests, and we have, and that we would do two things exceptionally well, BED and BREAKFAST, and we've managed to do just that.
NORTH FORK WINE COUNTRY
To remind you and me, we live in a beautiful piece of Nature’s handiwork called Long Island’s East End. Specifically, here on the North Fork, as opposed to the Hamptons, we experience the bucolic Nature of the area. Here we have wineries, vineyards, farms, pristine beaches, hiking trails, preserves, ponds, fishing, and, best of all, “the light.” Painters often describe light as a source of light that makes things luminous. In addition, the weather is so much different and milder than in New York City. Check out our rooms and visit us sometime soon.
