Shellabration in Greenport 2013!

No, I’ve not had too much to drink (talk to me again after 5, why don’tcha) – I’m talking about the upcoming festival called Shellabration in North Fork’s Greenport Village to both celebrate the Peconic Bay harvest and promote the health of local waters.
Sample, savor, and salivate over the very best of freshly harvested, Peconic Bay shellfish prepared by Greenport’s leading chefs in conjunction with the finest wines North Fork vintners have to offer.
I’ve got your attention now, haven’t I? I thought so!

Pick up a wristband online then meet up at the East End Maritime Museum in Greenport to collect your wristband, a map of participating restaurants, and a first taste of the day: Greenport Harbor Ale, and a tasting of Peconic Bay Scallops, Clams, and Oysters.
From there you will commence your Greenport restaurant walk of the fourteen participating restaurants (it’s okay if you collapse half of the way through – no one could blame you) and reap the reward of $5, tapas-sized portions of the finest local shellfish creations oh, so gently washed down with $3 pairings of delicious, North Fork wines.
Proceeds from the wristband sales go towards the SPAT and the Greenport Rotary Club.
And what’s SPAT, you ask?
In this particular instance, “SPAT” is not something that occurs between a husband and wife who’ve had too much (or, perhaps, not enough) local wine and fresh seafood but, rather, an volunteer organization busy bringing shellfish back to local waters. SPAT – Southold Project in Aquaculture Training – encourages the local citizenry to raise scallops, oysters, and clams to help re-populate the once-depleted local bays. The proof of the program’s success will be on your plate, should you attend the Shellabration!
So it’s all for a rather good cause, no matter how shellfish it feels …
