It’s Shellabration time once again, when the North Fork’s Greenport Village celebrates the Peconic Bay harvest and promotes the health of local waters and community at the same time!
Held on December 6th and 7th, 2014, noon to 4pm, Greenport Village’s annual Shellabration is two days of ultra-fresh shellfish from Peconic Bay, served raw or prepared by the most celebrated local chefs and restaurants and paired with the finest, latest releases from North Fork wineries and breweries.
For two days, Shellabration 2014 will offer you the fantastic opportunity to take the Greenport Village restaurant walk to sample the very best local shellfish creations from fourteen participating restaurants. Greenport’s leading chefs will be offering tapas-sized portions of their finest, shellfish-based, culinary masterpieces for only $5 a sample. Local wineries will also be on hand, offering paired wine tastings for only $3 as well as full glass options. How could you *not* be excited?
You can purchase your wristband online, then pick it up for Shellabration 2014 at the East End Maritime Museum in Greenport. You’ll also receive a map at that time, of participating restaurants, along with a start to your Shellabration in the form of a free glass of Greenport Harbor Ale and a tasting of delectable Peconic Bay scallops, clams, and oysters from the raw bar.
Proceeds from the Greenport Shellabration 2014 wristband sales go towards the Southold Project in Aquaculture Training (SPAT) and the Community Action Southold Town (CAST).
SPAT is a volunteer organization busy bringing shellfish back to local waters. Created to encourage local citizens to become involved in the local, shellfish restoration, SPAT volunteers raise scallops, oysters, and clams at home and then release them into the local bays where they spawn and further enrich the once-depleted area. The bounty that makes Shellabration possible is proof of SPAT’s success!
