We’ve talked an awful lot about North Fork wineries recently, so I felt it was time to shift the focus on a similar subject: Long Island craft breweries. Did you know there are nearly 30 breweries or brewpubs on Long Island, including our very own Greenport Harbor Brewing?
Greenport Harbor Brewing has been brewing craft beer on Long Island’s North Fork since July of 2009. Initially producing a modest 3,000 barrels of beer a year, Greenport Harbor Brewing’s popularity outstripped its production capacity.
In response, they expanded their operations to a second location in Peconic, NY in 2014. This new location increased the breweries potential output more than 18 times: with an eye at starting out around 10,000 barrels a year, the new digs allow the capacity to produce as much as 55,000 barrels a year!
Having two locations allows Greenport Harbor Brewing not just greater production capacity but also more venues to sample their delicious wares!
Both the original Greenport Harbor Brewing location on Carpenter Street and the newer Peconic brewery feature taprooms. There are even plans to eventually serve food at the Peconic location but the initial concentration has been on the new expansion in brewing capacity. While, due to its size, the Peconic location produces the bulk of the breweries bottled offerings, the original Greenport Breswery will focus on small-batch brews.
Greenport Harbor Brewing’s main line includes Black Duck Porter, Otherside IPA, Hopnami IPA, Longest Night Oatmeal Stout, Summer Ale, Harbor Ale, and a number of limited, special or seasonal brews including Cuvaison, a Belgian style golden ale utilizing grapes and juice from local wineries.
