Enjoy a Long Island Wine Country Vacation

Enjoy a Long Island Wine Country VacationYou’ve survived the holidays and now it’s time for some well-deserved rest and relaxation to kick off the New Year right – but what to do? How about a Long Island Wine Country getaway?

You might think winery tours and tastings are an activity more suited to warmer times of the year. Let’s face it: a glass of wine with friends is fine whenever it happens. Besides, enjoying a glass of wine while snuggled up next to a crackling fire? That sounds even better, somehow doesn’t it?

Further, Long Island wine country doesn’t get folded up and put away during the cold months. Sure, the vineyards are at rest but the wineries? The wines keep maturing in their cellars – wouldn’t it be a good idea to have a taste? Just check in to see how things are faring?

Of course it would – and the wineries of Long Island would love to see you!

Long Island Wine Country
Long Island wine country runs through Nassau and Suffolk Counties, with most of the wineries and vineyards here located on the North and South Forks. Over the past forty years or so, the Long Island wine industry has expanded from just one vineyard (Hargrave Vineyards in 1975 now Castello di Borghese Vineyard & Winery, in Cutchogue) to almost sixty producers with over 2,500 acres of vines.

The climate, geography, and soil characteristics of Long Island’s North and South Forks are ideal. The East End of Long Island is considered one of the world’s great vineyard regions. The Long Island Wine Council has put together a helpful site detailing the history, locations, and more of Long Island Wine Country: www.liwines.com
